Basic in Place (PreBronze)

This is a figure where three steps are danced in place with feet almost together, LF RF LF (LF Basic in Place) or RF LF RF (RF Basic in Place). Lady dances normal opposite. It is danced in Closed Position and there is no turn. This is a useful practice exercise for teaching beginners the weight changes and rhythm and may also be used as an occasional alternative to the normal Closed Basic. It is not listed separately in the Precedes and Follows

Alternative Basics (PreBronze)

These movements are danced in Closped Position and are commenced with feet apart, weight on RF when following with a LF Alternative Basic Movememnt. As the Man dances a LF Alternative Basic the Lady will dance a RF Alternative Basic and vice versa. As the name implies they may be danced in place of a normal Closed Basic, therefore they are not listed separately in the Precedes and Follows. They may be danced with normal hold, L to R hand hold, or without hold

Foot Positions of the LF Alternative Basic

1 LF closes to RF (count 2)
2 2 Transfer weight to RF (count 3)
3 3 LF to side (count 4 1)

Foot Positions of the RF Alternative Basic are the same, commenced with RF.
A suggested use would be to dance the Closed Basic followed by the LF Alternative Basic, then the RF Alternative Basic
The LF Alternative Basic may end in Open PP, man turning 1/8 L and Lady 1/8 R on 3. Likewise the RF Alternative Basic Movememnt may end in Open CPP, Man turning 1/8 R and Lady 1/8 L on 3

Development

Silver A More advanced way of dancing this figure would be to close LF to RF without weight but with pressure (count 2) hold position with weight on RF (count 3) then LF to side (count 4 1). This may also be commenced with the other foot. The hip motion is very slight on 1 & 2. Footwork on 2 is flat (Lady normal opposite)

The Man may dance the LF Alternative Basic (either method) In place of the first three steps of any figure commenced in Open Position or Fan Position, while leading Lady to dance her normal first three steps of the figure selected. When commenced in Fan Position, 3 will be very small to maintain the correct position in relation to the Lady

When Man dances a LF Alternative Basic from Open Position as a precede to the Natural Top, he will turn slightly R on 3

When the figure is danced by Man, the Lady will dance "close fwd fwd" (RF LF RF)
